The DRIVE and Martin's Cove

On our way to Grandmother's house is always a favorite activity. It doesn't happen nearly enough. This time we almost didn't get to leave as planned. Katherine got so sick. At first I thought she was just sorta sick. She was fun and played with her bucket. But she quickly went down hill. She got a super high fever and then would just cry holding her head in her hands begging for a band aide. It was very sad. After a visit to the Insta Care where they told me to take her to the ER if she didn't get better and some serious crying Greg and a good friend of ours Steve came and gave Kate a blessing. During the blessing she stopped crying and slept. She slept for hours...she slept the next day...she cried and was still sick but she slept really well. I still didn't think we would be able leave on time but being hopeful and not wanting to disappoint the children I loaded the car and got everything ready to go. At the designated time of departure Kate's fever was gone and she jumped off the couch begged for food and began dancing around the room. Greg and I decided to chance it and left. She was find the remainder of the trip! It was our amazing little pre-vacation miracle. Here are some pictures before she got terribly sick.

We had a hard time sleeping in Gillete at the hotel so we decided to wake up really early and do a five mile hike at Martin's cove. It was an excellent idea!

We pulled the kids a in the wagon part of the way.

Kate was still a little tired. I carried her the 2 1/2 miles that the kids walked. Jacob rain the whole way. He pretended like he was in Ninja training camp.
Then we all took a nap! Except Greg. He drove to the rest of the way.
Here is a picture of a crazy south dakota storm we drove through. Tons of rain! It was a little scary to know we were approaching it and to see how dark the sky was ahead of us.
