Fishing & Frogging at Lake Elm

We celebrated Native American Day (It is not Columbus Day here in South Dakota) by going to Lake Elm with our new friends. They introduced us to the sport of South Dakota Fishing & Frogging. It was the best day we have had in South Dakota since my parents left!

The landscape is so different here than in Georgia. It has its very own beauty. I love being able to see as far as visibility allows with no trees obstructing the views. It was very peaceful and chilly day!
The kids just loved riding in the fishing boat! I wish I had taken better pictures...but I was more focused on the kids than pictures....probably a good thing since our last visit Jacob ended up in the river! We did have one incident where he fell through the grass onto the bank. He only got his finger of his glove wet :) Good thing too because it was mighty chilly!

Sabrina and her friend caught a fish out on the boat together.

Sabrina is already hooked on fishing and just cannot wait for me to get my her a pole.  While I was out on the boat she caught her own fish and reeled it in without any help! Talk about beginners luck!

Frogging was also a highlight!

There were frogs everywhere. Even stuck in the bathroom (scared Jacob and I to death when he jumped out from behind the toilet!) . The children had a blast catching the frogs and filling a cooler with them. It was mainly the older girls who caught the frogs. Sabrina caught a fair amount on her own too.

I think the total was around 126. It will tell you for sure in the video. It took the girls a few seconds to dump the frogs out so you might want to fast forward to about 30 seconds.

Just for the record I did not touch a single frog. Frog slime is not my thing...I did step on one or two...but it wasn't my fault. Really. They just hope right under your feet when your walking.

After your comment about the frog behind the toilet, I thought the Pictures of frogs in the coolers were pics of frogs in the toilet tank! That would be hilarious!
