Fishing with the Francoms

What would summer in South Dakota be without a few fishing trips? We went to Richmond lake, close to Aberdeen for this one. The weather was just perfect, clear and cool, a perfect evening. Everyone has their own pole, but Jake keeps a rubber fish on his line so that he never comes up empty (yet he probably scares all of our fish away by casting and reeling that rubber fish). Whenever one of us caught a fish (such as a bluegill), Jake would reel in his line with the rubber fish and declare that he caught the same type of fish ("I caught a bluegill too!").

In the end we probably caught about 20 fish. Sabrina could barely get her line out in the water before the next bite would come. After fishing for a while, the sun started setting over the lake so we took a break to go watch the sun set. Clara wanted to tell us a story so we let her but she got so animated about it that the story went on and on for what seemed like forever.

While fishing, I realized that I forgot to bring my fishing license so we were worried that a game warden might appear. As I was putting away the poles, a figure emerged from the dark shadows and informed us that he was a game warden checking if we took more than our limit and if we had our licenses. I was pretty worried at this point, but then I recognized his face in the darkness. He happened to be one of the guys that plays volleyball on my team Monday nights. So instead we talked about volleyball and he left without asking to see my license. Luck was on my side that night.

After fishing was over we had a fire with smores. Smores are so much better when you use fudge covered cookies instead of graham crackers and chocolate. The stars were out and filled the sky. It really was a great experience.
